Getting Gnats Out of Plant Pots

Some midges are attracted to the humidity of flower pots and use it to make cozy little nests. We therefore find ourselves invaded by these small flying insects. In this case, there are several things you can do to get rid of these little critters and save your plants.

Here are some simple and effective anti-midge tips:

Reduce the quantity of  watering water:  the development of these flies is favored when the soil for your plants is humid. Their presence may mean that you are overwatering your plant. Therefore reduce the quantity of water and the frequency of watering.

Do not let water stagnate  in the water collection saucer under the pot.

Keep plants away from heat sources  and ventilate as much as possible. Flies hate  drafts .

Use sticky traps:  these are plates which attract certain insects which stick to them.

Use lemon and cloves: plant cloves in lemon halves and place them near your plants: the combined smell of lemon and cloves will scare away flies.

Plant basil or mint  :  their smell keeps flies away.

Use carnivorous plants  (for houseplants) also called flytraps .

Plant matches:  put the match heads (the sulfur tip) in the ground and change them regularly.

Putting a layer of sand  on top of the soil prevents flies from coming out and presumably from reproducing.

Cover your flower pot with a piece of tulle . Flies will be trapped by the fabric and will not be able to feed or breed.

Thanks to these tips, you will be safe from this type of insect. All you have to do is try these solutions to eliminate midges from your daily life.
