Uses of Eggshells in the Garden


Eggshells have several uses Composed of up to 97% calcium carbonate, proteins and minerals (magnesium, potassium, iron, etc.), they can be used in several ways  in your garden:

– Enrich the soil:  Grind egg shells (preferably uncooked) into powder. Distribute this powder at the base of your plants. Rich in calcium , potassium and magnesium , eggshell powder is a real booster for your soil.

– Keep slugs and snails away from the garden: Grind the egg shells and place them around the plants to be protected. Slugs and snails do not like to go on crushed egg shells.

– Protect fruit trees against certain diseases: Place fresh (uncooked) crushed shells in a net and hang it on your tree as soon as it blooms. They will guarantee you a healthy tree.

– Prepare seedlings: Empty and rinse half-shells. Drill a drip hole in their bottom. Put some potting soil and 1 or 2 seeds to germinate. Not only are the shells rich in nutrients, they provide a perfect medium for growing your plants before transplanting them to the garden. When the seedlings are large enough to transplant, break the shell or plant the seedlings with their shells directly in the soil.
