Our advice will show you the best way to preserve garlic, because although it is healthy and delicious, you don’t necessarily want to eat this vegetable every day.
Tip 1: Store in a cool, dry place
The most important thing for storing garlic is to always keep it cool, dark and dry.
Tip 2: Braid the garlic into braids
If you have freshly harvested garlic, remove the loose skins and braid it into braids to hang overnight in a cool, airy place to dry. It is important that the garlic receives enough oxygen. You can also store the bulbs in a wooden box.
Tip 3: Hang by the stem
To ensure that your garlic lasts for a long time, tie it by the stem and hang it. Make sure that the humidity of the storage location is not too high, as garlic starts to rot at humidity above 75%. A damp cellar is therefore not a suitable storage location.
Tip 4: Check the air circulation
You can also use a net to store the garlic. However, make sure the garlic gets enough air. Never put garlic in a plastic bag. A paper bag is better.
Tip 5: Place a flowerpot on top
Place the garlic on a plate and cover it with a flowerpot. Make sure the jar has a hole in the bottom to let air in.
Tip 6: Soak it in oil
To make the garlic last longer, you can also soak it in oil. To do this, peel the garlic, place the cloves in a jar with a screw cap, cover them with oil and possibly add spices such as rosemary. In this way, not only will the garlic be preserved for a long time, but you will also have a delicious and aromatic oil at hand.
Tip 7: Process the garlic
You can also make a garlic paste to preserve the garlic and always have fresh garlic on hand. To do this, first of all peel some cloves of garlic and then grind or chop them with a blender. Add salt and oil to the pasta until you obtain a creamy mixture. Place the mixture in a jar with a screw cap. If you want the pasta to keep for up to 6 months, fill the jars with water to 2 centimeters below the edge of the lid and place them in a pot.
