When autumn arrives, it’s impossible not to think  about roasted chestnuts  ! In this period the streets of the cities are filled with roasted chestnut sellers and we are all attracted by the  intense aroma  that inebriates everyone.

But not only on the street, there are also  families who have the tradition of preparing them at home  to enjoy them with the family on rainy evenings.

But  how are chestnuts preserved  ? Here are  4 foolproof tips for storing them for up to a year .

In the freezer

It is  a method dedicated to raw chestnuts .

If stored in the freezer, chestnuts will remain edible  for at least 12 months . So, if you want to stock up on them now and roast them for Christmas dinner, know that you can do it safely.

Soak them in water, then dry them and cut them with a small knife, without making too many incisions.

Then, place the chestnuts  in an airtight container  and place them in the freezer.

In the fridge

To keep chestnuts in the best conditions,  place them in the refrigerator .

Immerse them in water and eliminate any that float. Then set the good chestnuts aside and dry them carefully.

When they are completely dry, place them in a jute bag or an airtight food bag.

Then insert the bag  into the crisper  making sure that the temperature does not exceed three degrees.

This preservation method guarantees a shorter storage period, not exceeding a few months .

To obtain  dried chestnuts , dry them in a traditional oven.

To this end, it is advisable to boil them before drying them, even if it is not a mandatory step.
