Is it necessary to drink 2 liters of water a day for good health?

Many wonder if it is really necessary  to drink 2 liters of water a day to have excellent health.  The answer is no, according to this very recent study.

Is it really necessary to drink 2 liters of water a day to stay healthy? According to an ancient belief, this is the right amount of water for good daily hydration. However, a study conducted by the University of Aberdeen in Scotland challenges this popular belief.

To be healthy, experts recommend drinking 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day. But according to a recent scientific study, this is not true at all. After extensive research, scientists have confirmed that  drinking 2 liters of water a day is not an obligation.  Indeed, it is estimated that this amount is  too much  for one day. As a result, researchers recommend an amount  between 1.5 and 1.8 liters per day .

A survey of 5,000 people

During the study, experts consulted around 5,000 people from 23 different countries. Each participant was given a test to  identify the rate of renewal of water in the body .

Professor Neil Turner, a kidney specialist at the University of Edinburgh, explains: “Contrary to many claims, you should drink as much as you think you need. The body is able to define the amount of water it needs and communicates this with thirst.” He goes on to say that  other drinks  such as tea and coffee are part of the recommended 1.5 liters of fluids in a day.

In short, this new research stated that you don’t need to drink 2 liters of water a day for good health . According to Professor Neil Turner,  only people suffering from urinary tract infections or kidney stones need to drink more than 1.8 liters of water a day.

However, don’t forget to keep yourself  properly hydrated  especially when the temperature is quite high. If possible, have a bottle of water that allows you to drink from time to time.
