WHERE TO MOVE THE ORCHID WHEN THE TEMPERATURES START TO CHANGE

Autumn doesn’t always  arrive with the famous equinox! Often, in fact, the actual  lowering of temperatures  takes a little further.

The result is that the plants remain in a sort of extension of summer for a long time before undergoing the change in temperatures. The Orchid , a very delicate plant, is very sensitive to this sudden change and it is always important to pay attention to the protection of this plant.

Let’s see  where we can move it  when temperatures start to change.

On the veranda

Despite being an indoor plant, the phalaenopsis orchid  is sometimes kept outside in the summer months, always protected from too intense sunlight. With the arrival of the cold, however,  it must be taken to a more protected environment .

The veranda can be the right compromise: here, in fact, the temperatures tend to be more moderate than the cold of the balcony or terrace and you will not have problems with sun exposure if you keep the plant in a corner in  bright indirect sunlight .

It is important that the temperatures of this environment generally do not fall  below 12-14 °C  nor do they constantly remain  below 10 °C . Even during  its vegetative rest , which begins in autumn and ends in early spring, the orchid does not like temperatures below this threshold which could  cause it to dry out .

On the bathroom windowsill

It may seem strange, but the perfect room to move your orchid in autumn is… the  bathroom !

This room, often smaller in size than the others, has  unique characteristics  that make it  an ideal environment for the orchid , very similar to its original habitat.

First of all, the humidity rate here is higher than elsewhere: this is an important fact given that the orchid, despite some characteristics deriving from the different species or variety, prefers environments where the humidity rate  is  higher  than 70% .

Also, the windowsill is usually a perfect place as   bathroom window  panes are often cloudy . When the glass is opaque,  sunlight  still passes through but is  filtered  and, consequently, perfect for the needs of this plant.

On a shelf in the kitchen

Another environment where you can move your orchid and which is well suited to hosting this plant is the  kitchen .

After the bathroom, in fact, the kitchen is the most  humid room  in the house thanks above all to the  vapors  that are generated when you cook. It is important to keep the orchid on a  high shelf , away from direct contact with these vapours.

Also, make sure that where you put it the plant receives its good dose of  indirect sunlight , which is important for the health of the plant even during the autumn and winter months.

In addition to the choice of place, some make  some really serious mistakes  in caring for this plant. Check out this video to learn more.

On the living room table

As a rule, during the cold months, it is not recommended to keep the orchid in a  place that is too large  where the cold is normally a little more pronounced.

If your  living room , however, has the right temperature conditions, it can easily accommodate this plant of yours.

Our advice is to keep the orchid  on a table  so as to allow it to receive all possible light coming from the outside through windows or French windows.

Remember that, however, you should avoid exposing the orchid to  overly heated environments , perhaps artificially. Therefore, do not keep your plant too close to  air conditioners ,  stoves ,  fireplaces  or  radiators  which tend to  dry  the air  too much , damaging the health of the plant in the long run.
