With the days getting hotter, the balcony becomes a place where you can find a little relaxation or where you can sit and drink a good coffee .
Whether small or large, the balcony represents our home garden and, as such, should be decorated with many beautiful plants .
Many, however, complain of not being able to have the flowered balcony they would like: the plants always appear bare and dry and there is no trace of flowers !
Is there a way to have a balcony that is always in bloom with very little effort? Absolutely yes! Just follow some very simple tips .
Let’s find out together how to do it.
Attention : if you have any doubts, you can contact your trusted florist or gardener who will resolve any doubts.
Choose the right plants
The most common mistake is to buy plants at random without taking into account the type and exposure of your balcony .
If, in fact, direct sun never shines on your balcony , you must choose plants that prefer partial shade, such as roses .
If, however, your balcony is exposed to the sun, decorate it with plants that love bright environments, such as geraniums .
Obviously, you must also take into account the average temperature of the places where you live: some plants prefer high temperatures, others lower ones.
Water regularly
To always have flowering plants you must water your plants without forgetting.

The ideal is to establish a morning time in which to do a sort of reconnaissance tour , checking the status of all the plants you have on the balcony .
Water according to the needs of each plant and remembering that, for many ornamental plants, watering must be regular and not excessive, otherwise you run the risk of causing the roots to rot .
NB: usually, watering is avoided in the evening because with the nightly temperature drop , the water may not be absorbed correctly and damage the plants.
Take the seasons into account
Flowery balcony yes, but in the right seasons! Surely you don’t think of having flowering cyclamens in summer?
To decorate your balcony , choose plants that flower in that particular season .
For example, in spring-summer , you can decorate it with geraniums , hydrangeas , camellias or many other plants.
Fertilize
To have flowering plants on your balcony, it is important to fertilize them so as to have more abundant and longer blooms .
The type of fertilizer and methods of administration depend on the type of plant. In general, however, potassium -based fertilizers or fertilizers are used to stimulate flowering .
Furthermore, some plants must be fertilized as early as March , therefore before actual flowering.
Be careful when the days are too hot
As much as they may be lovers of the sun and high temperatures, sometimes the summer days are too hot and the heat may not allow flowering .
If it is usually too hot on your balcony in summer , put up curtains or move the plants to a more sheltered place where there is some coolness .
Alternatively, you can spray a little water on the foliage of the plants to keep them cool .
Keep pests away
Heat, blooms and… parasites ! Unfortunately, with the summer , parasite attacks become more frequent.
During your daily check of the plants, always check that there are no suspicious insects on the leaves and flowers.
Pests, such as aphids and scale insects , weaken the plant which sometimes does not have enough energy to flower .
If your plants are infested , take action using specific products or by spraying the plants with a mix of water and Marseille soap to ward off these unwelcome guests.
