How to care for the lemon plant: 10 tips to do it better

Lemon  is a very common and appreciated citrus fruit, so it is not uncommon to find  trees  planted in gardens or on terraces.

Like any plant, it needs specific care so that it can grow  healthy  and lush and thus enjoy its  fragrant fruits  .

So let’s see some tips to put it into practice to  cultivate it  to the fullest.

  1. Purchase: First  make sure you have a quality plant. You can contact a trusted nurseryman or grow it directly from the seeds of a lemon.
  2. Pot:  if grown in pots, the size must be the most appropriate. The ideal is at least 35 cm in diameter.
  3. Soil:  Make sure you have an adequate top layer of soil. A mixture of compost and coconut fiber is recommended.
  4. Light:  Sun exposure is one of the most important factors for lemon growth. It needs at least 6 hours of direct light a day.
  5. Water:  Depending on the climate, the amount of water required by the plant may vary. One method to understand when to give water is to check the soil moisture at the surface.
  6. Fertilizer : The nutrients the plant needs can be supplemented with natural fertilizers, such as banana peel or Epsom salt.
  7. Insects:  even lemon, like several plants, can be attacked by insects and pests. To protect it, use natural pesticides, such as Neem oil.
  8. PH:  The ideal soil pH level ranges between 6 and 6.5
  9. Pollination:  Make sure it happens correctly, as it is crucial for the growth of flowers and fruits.
  10. Pruning:  at each change of season the lemon plant can be pruned so that it can develop new branches.
