How to get rid of cockroaches with baking soda

Cockroaches, cockroaches or cockroaches, these names designate the same insect that we fear so much. And for good reason, it is sometimes painful to get rid of them. These little creatures have an unfortunate tendency to populate strategic places within our homes, while reproducing very quickly. In fact, males attract females and vice versa using pheromones and vibrations to gather with their peers and create a colony, hence the risk of infestation. Fortunately, it is not impossible to eliminate them from your home by following these good tips.

Cockroaches are attracted to dark, damp and warm places

Crawling or flying, cockroaches tend to live in the least accessible corners of the house. Sometimes they can also be found in baseboards, cracks or cracks in walls. In France, the German cockroach is the most widespread omnivorous species. It prefers to move around in dark places at night and can even emerge from pipes, the dishwasher, the refrigerator, the sink, the garbage chute or the vacuum cleaner. Generally, commercially available cockroach control products are preferred for eliminating cockroaches. However, the latter containing toxic chemicals can prove harmful to health or the environment. For this reason, many people prefer to turn to natural alternatives in order to exterminate these unwanted crawling insects. And for good reason, in addition to being invasive, they can also carry germs and pathogens harmful to health.

In addition to the many domestic uses of bicarbonate, this non-toxic and safe ingredient is a formidable ally for complete and lasting eradication of cockroaches. The ideal is to combine it with powdered sugar to create a very effective trap against these pests. For successful pest control, simply mix a glass of sugar with a glass of sodium bicarbonate and pour this mixture into small plates to place in warm, humid places along the walls. Attracted by sugar, cockroaches will also end up ingesting the mineral powder which, ultimately, will dehydrate them before killing them.

If you want a simpler solution to use, it is possible to prepare an anti-cockroach spray based on sugar water and baking soda. Mix everything in a spray bottle and spray on the places favored by these little creatures.

What attracts cockroaches?

When cockroaches take hold, it is usually due to several reasons. The first being the lack of hygiene. In fact, when we leave dishes lying around on the work surface, these crawling or flying pests are attracted to the leftover food, which encourages their proliferation. The same goes for food stored in unsealed boxes, unwashed dishes or grease splashes after cooking. In this sense, it is imperative to regularly clean your kitchen, especially the hood, cupboards and household appliances. As for food residue, always place it in closed plastic bags before putting it in the trash. This will prevent cockroaches from being attracted to the crumbs. German cockroaches in particular that we find in the kitchen are fond of dark and humid places . In this sense, also remember to empty the container behind the refrigerator, responsible for collecting the condensation water and if possible, use an air dehumidifier in the bathroom or kitchen.

Also, remember that cockroaches are continually looking for water sources to survive, and any leaks or puddles are likely to attract them . So, check your pipes regularly and take the necessary measures to combat moisture or mold to prevent them from coming into your home. In fact, it is above all these two conditions which favor their appearance since they provide them with warm and humid places to populate. Finally, if you have pets, don’t forget their kibble and water which we often leave lying around. Baskets and litter boxes must also be changed and cleaned to prevent them from becoming real nests for these little critters. You will have understood, maintaining the cleanliness of your home is imperative to prevent their appearance!
