Aluminum ball in the dishwasher, what happens will leave you speechless

The trick to having super shiny cutlery in the dishwasher and some tips on how to clean the dishwasher.

Browsing the web you can find numerous home cleaning tricks that sometimes turn out to be magical. But this time the trend is becoming popular on  TikTok,  a Chinese social network launched in 2016 that is popular among young people. In reality,  the trick that is becoming popular is simply chemical since it involves a reaction of aluminum with sodium bicarbonate  .

Dishwasher: Here’s How to Get Super Shiny Cutlery

The popular trick owes its popularity to Australian  Carolina Mccauley,  creator of the video that went viral.  Simply place an aluminum ball in the dishwasher and the problem of dirty or dull cutlery after washing in the dishwasher will be solved.

If you want to try it, just take the aluminum foil you have at home, crumple it up and put it in the cutlery basket. After placing the ball you can activate the normal dishwasher cycle and when it is finished you will notice that your forks and knives will be shiny like never before.

It almost seems like magic, but it’s a simple chemical reaction, particularly an electrochemical reaction between aluminum and the baking soda  found in dishwasher tablets.

The action of baking soda and water between the silver and the aluminum ball creates a current that attracts particles that cause the cutlery to lose shine.  A really quick and practical method to get super shiny cutlery.

Aluminum foil also to dry.

This aluminum foil method is not new and is also used in the dryer  . Here you also introduce a few balls of crumpled aluminum foil (one or two) and the effect obtained is that of a fabric that maintains its consistency to the touch. Here the action of aluminum is to reduce the static electricity that is created between the different fabrics.

Additionally, you can use the same ball several times, for one month if you use the dryer frequently, two months if you use it less frequently. There is no risk of the clothes coming out stained but it is always better to try a load of clothes with less good clothes.

How to keep your dishwasher clean

The dishwasher is the ally of many families and helps to wash all the kitchen utensils, but to ensure its operation it must also be cleaned frequently and correctly. In the supermarket you can find various chemical products to clean this appliance, but in reality you can use simple ingredients found in the pantry, to save money and seek an increasingly sustainable world.

For the outside of the dishwasher you can use a damp cloth soaked in warm water with a few drops of white vinegar.  But vinegar can also be used indoors as it is perfect for eliminating odors and dissolving limescale  .

Even for the interior, just pour a little vinegar on the affected parts and leave it to act for a few minutes. Then you just need to rinse and dry.  Otherwise you can do a vacuum wash for a deep cleaning  , in this case you will need to pour approximately a liter of vinegar into the bottom and start the program with the highest temperature.

If you don’t want to use vinegar, you can use baking soda  . This can also be added directly to the dishwasher during normal washing. This will also increase the cleanliness of the dishes inside.

However, if you want to act more specifically, you can proceed by doing a vacuum wash with about 100 grams of baking soda. It is recommended to perform this type of deeper cleaning once a month.

Finally, never forget to clean the dishwasher filters, it is a tedious operation that will pay off over time.  Wash the filter at least once a week under running water to free any holes. By carrying out all these precautions, your dishwasher will operate at its maximum capacity.
