Wooden ladles are an ancient tool, loved even by our grandmothers. They are perfect for thickening sauces and creams, but fat and grease tend to settle between the veins and cleaning them becomes a complex task.

We rub and rub, but it almost seems like the dirt penetrates even deeper!

However, just knowing the old pot method is enough to bring them back like new.

Let’s keep in mind that the procedure to implement it is always the same: a long soak; What changes at our discretion are the ingredients that are introduced into the water to carry out a type of regeneration. We can choose what we prefer indifferently, they are all equally effective, a lot depends on what we have available in the pantry. So we can do it immediately, without even leaving home and without spending a euro.

Prepare a nice big pot filled with hot water.

At this point we can decide which ingredient to use.

We can add  lemon,  with its degreasing properties it will act in depth. Just one,  squeeze it  and pour it into the pot of water. Then place the ladles vertically and let them soak for at least 2 hours. After this time, clean them with a soft sponge and rinse them.

Or use the  lemon cut in half  without squeezing it, sprinkle with a  thin layer of fine salt , wait for it to penetrate a little into the pulp and soften, then rub it on the wood.

Following the same procedure, we can also use  white vinegar.  Its sanitizing virtues are prodigious. Two glasses, a two-hour soak and a rinse are enough.

And let’s go to  baking soda : with its abrasive power, it dissolves the most stubborn scales.

Put two tablespoons in the water, bring to a boil, turn off the gas, place the wooden spoons and let them sit for an hour.

Alternatively, we can replace the baking soda with  fine salt , it will have the same effect.

Always remember to rinse them well and let them air dry before storing them.

Finally, we cannot miss a great classic, always present in our homes:  Marseille Soap . Dissolve it in hot water and soak for a long time as already explained.

Our ladles will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized!
