My tomato plant is getting very tall. Can I prune it?

Does your  tomato plant  continue to grow and reach a height of over one meter? Maybe it’s time to  prune it to make its stems vigorous  and have bigger, juicier tomatoes.

When tomato plants enjoy the environment they are planted in, they grow quickly and become very large. However, the stems are often fragile. So what are the right things to do before pruning them?

My tomato plant continues to grow, is pruning the right solution?

Has your tomato plant grown a lot recently and become too tall? If it reaches a height of one meter or more, it is necessary to prune the head of the plant. Known as topping, this process involves  cutting the main stem of the tomato plant . You can do this every week to  have a plant at the perfect height . Additionally, this pruning will make your tomatoes stronger and give you a denser plant.

How can I slow the growth of my tomato plant?

To get a good sized tomato plant, follow these  some tips .

Remove shoots that grow close to the ground.

Do not exceed a maximum height of one meter.

Cut the main stem at the base of the tomatoes.

Cut the plant in the morning  when the temperature is dry.

Do not cut the leaves at the top to protect the plant from the sun’s rays.

Avoid  making the dimensions too rigid .

What can I do to prevent my tomato plant from overgrowing?

If the tomato plant grows vertically, it can reach a meter or more in height. To limit this height,  place horizontal stakes to encourage the plant to spread out to the sides . This way, you will have stronger, more vigorous stems that can support more tomatoes.
