Grafting a rose: how to do it with other varieties

Grafting a rose  from other varieties is not difficult, but it is necessary to follow all the basic operations. The results are not immediate, but satisfaction is certainly something to consider. The graft brings together two plants of different varieties, giving life to a unique plant of its kind.

First of all, it is  important to choose the pattern  , which is essential to carry out the action. Experienced nurserymen advise opting for a rosehip with a multiflora rose, especially if it is your first time.

The  rose hip  has robust roots and does not require much care, adapting to any type of soil. Not only that, in fact it is a perfect graft support. Multiflora has superficial roots that are perfect for this type of supplement.

To obtain the rootstock, the seeds of both varieties are buried, or it is built from cuttings. How to do it, first you take the two branches about twenty centimeters long  in winter  , and then plant them during the summer and be able to have your own seedling.

Curiosity and advice

Before proceeding with grafting,  it is necessary to obtain the necessary tools, such as disinfected scissors and ligation materials. Not only that, the operation will only have to be carried out if the outside temperature is 25 degrees.

First, the cut is cut with the necessary tools, trying to make a perpendicular and not clean cut. Before doing this, it is good  to remove the leaves and thorns  , so that it works even better. Now fix the separated part to the rootstock. Once obtained, it can be bound with raffia or other light material, which will cover the cut made previously.

After a month  you will be able to see the result  by removing the raffia to check the graft status.

It’s time to proceed with the  most important operation  . During the month of February, the rootstock will be cut at the tip of the graft itself. In spring you will see the first sprout and you will wait for it to reach fifteen centimeters. It will need to be trimmed and then the wild shoots around the structure will be removed.

Always ask   a professional nurseryman for advice, precisely because not all roses lend themselves to the operation.
