Suffering a burglary in your home is certainly not a pleasant experience . The fear has grown since the pandemic . This is due to the fact that the way of living in the home has changed quite a bit . In fact, 61 % of people spend much more time there than they used to.
According to the report from the Verisure Italia Home Security Observatory , carried out by Censis thanks to the collaboration of the Criminal Analysis Service of the Ministry of the Interior, it was found that approximately 9 million Italians have suffered at least one burglary at home.
And in fact, at the top of the fears of Italians for 52.8% is precisely that of suffering a burglary at home. The percentage rises to 58.6% among people who live in a single villa or a small house.
57.6 % , however, concerns the elderly, who often live alone , far from their children. During 2022 , a total of 135,447 residential burglaries and robberies were committed . And compared to the previous year there was an increase of 7.2% .
Although, between 2013 and 2022 there was a decrease in both thefts and robberies at home by 46.9% . The percentages change when we talk about very large metropolitan cities such as, for example, Rome and Milan .
In fact, in Rome in 2022 there were more than 11,600 thefts , which are equal to 8.7% of the national total. In the step immediately below we find Milan with 9,081 thefts equal to 6.8% . Turin follows with 4.4% or 5,875 thefts .
And 20% of the thefts committed in Italy in a year are concentrated in these cities . If you look at it from a different perspective , i.e. considering the incidence of thefts compared to residents, then Bologna is in first place with 35.7 crimes per 10,000 residents.

This allows you to make a ranking of the Italian regions from safest to least safe. And from this report it emerges that the safest is the Marche region with a value of 117.3 out of 100.
Lombardy in 17th place
Followed by the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia with 111.9 out of 100 and Trentino Alto Adig with 11.7 again out of 100 . In last place is the Lazio region . Citizens, in terms of their level of home security, perceive it as unsafe .
Lazio’s index is equal to 73.8 out of 100. Preceded only by Campania with 82.4 and Puglia with 89.8 on a per 100 basis . In this case, Lombardy ranks 17th with 93.3 on a per 100 basis .
