How to preserve lemons for a long time and without them getting moldy!
Have you bought some lemons a while ago and now you run the risk of having to throw them away because you haven’t used them? Well, today we reveal some ideas for the correct conservation of these wonderful fruits of nature. This way you can avoid wasting either the juice or the zest. Below you will find the ways and procedures to follow to solve this problem.
How to preserve lemons for a long time and without them getting moldy!
The first method is ice cubes: do you have three lemons and don’t want to waste them? Here, take them and grate their zest, then squeeze out the juice and put everything, both the zest and the juice, into the ice cube molds. Now you just have to put them in the freezer. When they have solidified, take them out of the molds and place them in a silicone freezer bag and put them back in the freezer, they will be ready for any occasion.
The second method is the toothpick method: you often cut the lemon in half and squeeze out just a little of its juice, then place it in the refrigerator. However, the mistake is often made of keeping it open. Instead, what you have to do is use toothpicks, inserting them between one half of the lemon and the other to be able to put it back together. It will stay fresh for several days and ready to use.
The third method is that of water: in this case all the lemon will be preserved. This method serves to preserve them longer by simply placing them in a container and adding enough water to cover them. Cover the container and place everything in the refrigerator for at least 2 or three days. However, if you only have half of the lemon to preserve, place the cut half, face down, in a saucer filled with water, this will allow the pulp to be preserved.
The fourth method is that of salty seasoning: this is undoubtedly the most elaborate procedure of all. Take a baking dish and place a layer of sea salt inside. Then add the zest of 5 lemons. We use a spoon to mix everything. Then we add the juice of the squeezed lemons inside (obviously as much as possible). Then we bake at 190° for about twenty minutes and then another 10 at 150°. Then remove from the oven and let cool. When this operation is finished, place everything in a glass jar. You have just created an ideal condiment for pasta, cold rice, salads, etc…! You can keep it in the pantry.
