The first remedy we suggest is the use of sage leaves, an aromatic herb with an intoxicating smell, which easily absorbs bad odors and brings a fresh smell to the kitchen.
Add 3 sage leaves to a pot of water, or more if you want a stronger scent, and add some lavender flowers if desired. Bring to a boil until everything has evaporated. Then, turn off the heat and let the fragrance diffuse. Once cooled, pour the mixture into a jar and place it on any kitchen surface.
We also recommend that you leave the sage leaves in the pan for a few minutes while the aroma evaporates, to eliminate any bad odors that have crept into the extractor hood. You can also put 3 to 4 sage leaves in a bag or small plate and place them in a corner of your kitchen.
eucalyptus air freshener
Like sage or lavender, eucalyptus is also highly recommended for absorbing unpleasant odors and bringing freshness to your home.
To make your air freshener, you will need:
- 50 ml of water
- 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
Pour everything into a spray bottle and shake vigorously to mix the ingredients well.
Eucalyptus not only absorbs unpleasant odors immediately, but also discreetly perfumes your kitchen. A simple gesture to clean the environment

If your kitchen odors are really stubborn and persistent, here’s a particularly effective solution: mix baking soda with lemon.
The lemon aroma is very useful to quickly eliminate kitchen odors. It also has the ability to deodorize your microwave: simply mix lemon juice with water in a bowl and heat it for 40 seconds in the appliance.
For its part, baking soda also has a great capacity to absorb bad odors. From the refrigerator to the oven to the trash can, this merciless powder neutralizes all annoying odors.
In a bowl, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Next, grate the zest of one lemon very finely and mix everything together. To intensify the aroma, add 5-6 drops of lemon or citrus essential oil.
White vinegar
Recognized for its cleaning and degreasing properties, vinegar is also recommended to eliminate odors from fried foods, fish or cheese. It even gets rid of those unpleasant burning odors that often smell very strong and quickly overwhelm other rooms in the house. Whether it’s white vinegar or apple cider vinegar, it’s the most versatile remedy you can have in your home!
Take a pot of water and add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, preferably apple cider vinegar which is milder. Bring it to a boil and you will notice that the vapors will eliminate any unpleasant odors. You can also fill a glass with white vinegar and leave it in the middle of the plate overnight. It will absorb all bad odors. This remedy is really suitable if you have prepared fried food in the evening.
NB _ Don’t forget to ventilate the room and avoid inhaling the vinegar, which can be unpleasant. Also be careful not to spray it on marble or natural stone surfaces – it may damage them!
Apple and cinnamon

Another natural trick to perfume the kitchen: you can prepare an air freshener with apple and cinnamon. The fusion of both is perfect to provide authentic freshness and an intoxicating aroma that will make all the strong odors impregnated in the room disappear. A simple cinnamon stick specifically removes lingering fumes from fried fish!
So take an apple and grated cinnamon and pour it all into a pot full of water. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, you will already notice the pleasant smell that spreads throughout your home! Once the mixture has cooled, strain the liquid and pour it into a spray bottle. If you prefer, you can also add a few drops of essential oil in the aroma of your choice to accentuate the aroma. Then spray the product and get rid of bad odors forever!
Note
Avoid these remedies if you are allergic or hypersensitive to one or more of the ingredients. Remember not to use vinegar or lemon on marble or very delicate surfaces.
