Saltpeter is the deposit of mineral salts that forms when the potassium nitrate contained in building materials comes into contact with oxygen and excess moisture.
This phenomenon is easy to recognize: saltpeter appears in the form of whitish crystals on the surface of the walls and causes the color to fall off.
Eliminating the problem of mold and saltpeter accumulation on house walls is not easy, as there are no targeted products that can work without damaging the paint.
Below we will introduce you to a trick that is certainly one of the most effective. You need:
1 wire brush
a bottle of muriatic acid
1 brush
container of soap and water
concrete
sealant
paint
Wear a mask, gloves and glasses to protect your eyes. Use the wire brush to remove all saltpeter from the surface of the walls.
Mix one glass of hydrochloric acid with three glasses of water and mix them with the brush until they blend perfectly.
Apply the solution with the brush. A foam will form and let it stand for five minutes. Then rub the wall with soap and water, rinse and clean.
Once the wall is dry again, you can apply cement to bring the wall back into shape, followed by sealant. This step may not be necessary.
Allow the concrete to dry and then apply a few coats of paint to restore the wall to its original appearance.
