Aluminum and coarse salt: the combination that solves many problems at home

Keeping surfaces and objects shiny is often a tedious and time-consuming task. Here is a solution that will change your life.

In a home there are many objects that require special attention and care. Whether for a deeper cleaning or for an aesthetic sense, we often find ourselves in the need to polish cutlery, surfaces or metals that do not always have the shine we would like.

Aluminum and salt, allies for shine

Anyone who owns a set of cutlery will know how long it takes to polish cutlery and silverware. In addition to being a long procedure,  we always try to obtain the mirror effect  that fully highlights the characteristics of the raw material. Many times we rely on the most disparate products to prevent rust, but what few know is that  what can solve the situation is in everyone’s homes  .

The first “ingredient” is aluminum. Present in every home and mainly used to store and wrap food,  aluminum hides many properties that can be useful in the home  .

Placing a little coarse salt and baking soda next to aluminum foil, for example, produces surprising results. The procedure to follow is very simple, you need a container, aluminum foil at least twice the length of the bottom of the container, two tablespoons of coarse salt, a tablespoon of baking soda and a little hot water.

The process of polishing objects.

You must first proceed by lining the container with aluminum foil so that the shiny and reflective side is facing up and moving laterally. Then add the water, coarse salt and baking soda. Mix the mixture and then insert the objects that require polishing.

Once all the objects have been introduced, we proceed to cover them with excess aluminum, leaving everything to act for at least 30 minutes. In this way and in the time described,  a chemical reaction will develop  that will ensure that the opacity of the cutlery is transferred from the objects to the aluminum foil, freeing them from the patina.

After 30 minutes it is necessary  to rinse the objects and dry them  with a soft cloth to see them shine again.

Other uses of aluminum for cleaning and for the home

Not only for beauty but also for usefulness. In fact, aluminum can be an excellent tool for the most uncomfortable household cleaning tasks.

One of the most difficult and unpleasant tools to clean and degrease is undoubtedly  the oven rack  . Aluminum helps here too. Once the grill is dry, simply roll a piece of aluminum foil until you create a not too compact ball, which will act as a scraper. Scrub the grill to remove any heavy deposits  . Next, dip the aluminum ball in a mixture of water and dish soap and scrub to remove stubborn grease and grime. You can also use a degreaser, the important thing is to always rinse the grill well before storing it.

In the face of increasingly expensive bills,  aluminum foil can help us save time and electricity when ironing  . In fact, just place a piece of aluminum foil under your clothes and then iron as normal. This way you can iron on both sides at the same time, since the aluminum will release heat through a reflected effect.

If you love gardening, this is the tip for you  . If you have recently planted or planted trees or fruit plants and are worried that birds may ruin your work, you can use aluminum. In this case, it is enough to hang a slightly crumpled aluminum sheet on the tree or near the plants. The reflection and slight noise produced by the aluminum foil will keep birds away without causing them any harm.
