Cling film: Place it on each shelf in the refrigerator and see what happens!

Cling film is a very valuable product in the kitchen: it helps to preserve food intact, to make sandwiches and snacks for packed lunches or snacks at school, it supports us when we prepare custard and prevents the formation of that unsightly and annoying skin that It would ruin our masterpiece.

But that is not all! It also works on refrigerator shelves! To what? We’ll find out together in a moment, but first let’s see how cellophane is made up.

It is a material of natural origin, cellulose hydrate. Its name derives from the fusion of two terms: cellulose, which seals, and diaphanous, a transparent compound that allows light to pass through.

This film, which can be used in the food industry due to its extreme safety, non-toxicity, elasticity and practicality, was discovered more than a century ago, in 1898, by three English chemists: Clayton Beadle, Charles Frederick Cross and Edward John Bevan. Once production began between the United Kingdom and France, its success was unstoppable. It was immediately used as flexible plastic packaging and later also for food storage.

And nowadays it comes in handy to solve even small domestic problems, such as, for example, in the case of the refrigerator.

Here we explain how!

Cling film: Place it on each shelf in the refrigerator and see what happens!

In the refrigerator, we must absolutely prevent the formation of germs and bacteria. Our care must be maximum, but the commitment to clean it can often be ignored.

This takes a long time and we are always in a hurry!

However, it’s worth starting here. Let’s take a moment and empty it completely, then clean each shelf. We can use a mixture of water and lemon juice or water and vinegar. Soak a soft cloth and wipe it over the surfaces. Dry well.

Now, let’s take a roll of plastic wrap. We are going to cut it into a sheet of paper the exact size of each shelf to create a kind of protective barrier.

The cellophane will have a double function: on the one hand, we will no longer run the risk of scratching surfaces with what we keep in the refrigerator; On the other hand, it will free us from the need to clean it often. In fact, if any liquid or food debris gets it dirty, simply remove the film and replace it with a clean one.

Brilliant, right?
