The Spathiphyllum or “moon flower” is a graceful houseplant with characteristic long spear-shaped leaves . Belonging to the Araceae family, it is a green plant native to tropical America.
Although many think this plant has flowers, these are just white leaves . The role of these leaves is to circulate the true flower which is called Spata.
What is the real role of this plant?
The main characteristic of Spathiphyllum is to purify the air in the house by naturally eliminating polluting elements.
So, if you want to grow this plant at home, you can easily use the hydroponic technique which involves cultivation in water without the use of soil.
How do you grow a Spathiphyllum in water?
Start by taking the plant, dividing it into sections and removing the damaged roots with scissors.
Then immerse the parts obtained in water to clean them properly and remove any residual soil.
Once this operation is completed, tie the plants together with an elastic band . Then place them in a vase full of water inserting a stick to keep them upright.
After 30 days, you can see many white roots that have grown in the water . You can also admire the growth of small white leaves.
At this point, remove the plant from the pot and remove the damaged parts of the roots.
After that, choose a vase and clean it properly. Insert some stones inside to decorate the bottom and then place the plant inside . Then, pour some water into the vase and place it in a corner of the house.
I advise you to place your Spathiphyllum in a bright place and away from drafts. Obviously, like all houseplants, place it away from air conditioners and radiators.
All that remains is to let the plant do its job by purifying the air in the house naturally .
