Why is it not recommended to detox after the holidays?

When it comes to party time, known for large meals, everyone talks about detox. It’s  a very fashionable concept  in the media. However, experts have not always demonstrated that these detox treatments are truly satisfactory. In fact, even if it is a very fashionable method, the negative effects of this practice are not negligible.

During the end-of-year holidays, each of us does everything necessary to  have a good holiday . From buying clothes and gifts to preparing festive menus, everything has to be perfect during the holidays. But due to fatty meals that are repeated for several days,  the body fills with toxins and harmful substances .

As a result, many people start detoxing after the holidays. It’s a way to eliminate all the toxins accumulated in the body during the holidays. However, many experts argue that it is not advisable at all, since there are no miracle foods capable of completely cleansing us.

However,  the concept of detox is very viral on the web  like slimming treatments or hypotoxic diets. Furthermore, it promises more than satisfactory results, including greater well-being, renewed energy and softer skin.

How does a detox treatment work?

When we talk about the concept of detox, it is about  helping the body neutralize all the toxins  that have accumulated in the tissues to redirect them to outlets such as the intestine, liver, kidneys or skin. In fact, thanks to organs such as the liver and kidneys, the body can purify itself.

However, when you over-consume a poor-quality diet that is high in processed foods and fats, your liver can become completely fatigued. So you can think about  doing a detox with healthy juices, light foods, herbal teas or even food supplements.

In fact, specialists recommend helping the liver function properly. Instead of detoxing, you should let the detox do its job.

Here is the advice of Nathalie Wheatley, naturopath and yoga teacher in Arras: “I advise you to take a digestive break. In other words, this means eating healthier, lighter foods to aid the natural elimination process. In fact, if you don’t change your usual eating routine while taking herbal teas, it’s not appropriate at all. To that end, don’t say I’m doing a detox, but that I’m letting the detox do its work. During this period, don’t eat too often and eat light foods and you will see that the detoxification treatment will be easier and more effective.”
