Materials:

  • fabric scissors
  • 2 1/2″ clay pot
  • hot glue gun
  • hair comb
  • two skeins of yarn (in colors of your choice)

Directions:

Step 1

To start, cut a 15″ piece of yarn and slip it between your middle and ring fingers. Take the ends of the tail and insert them between your thumb and forefinger. Then, wrap the remaining thread (of the same color) around your fingers about 200 times, until you have a large bundle. For smaller pom poms, wrap the yarn about 50 times. Next, cut the tail of the yarn, then grab the ends of the 15″ piece of yarn you used earlier and tie a half knot around the center of the bundle, pulling it tight.

Step 2

At this point, slowly remove the bouquet from your fingers and finish tying the loose pieces into a full knot. Next, hold the bunch with the buttonholes facing up and down, then cut the buttonholes, creating a fluffy pom pom. At this point, trim and shape the cactus. (Repeat these steps to make smaller pom poms.

Step 3

Once you have all the pom poms, start assembling the project. Generously coat the inside of the terracotta vase with hot glue and adhere the pom pom to the inside of the vase. At this point you can refine the pom pom a little more. Then, create a slit in the larger pom poms, put some hot glue and insert the cactus flower (or smaller pom poms). Your DIY pom pom cactus is finished!
