How to choose the sweetest watermelon whenever you want

Many people have difficulty choosing the best watermelon when buying it in the store, because it is not easy to know if you cannot see the pulp inside the fruit. Fortunately, there are many other ways to find out if your watermelon has ripened well without having to cut it or see the flesh first, with the help of this video tutorial from Natural Ways on YouTube.

Methods:

  • Lift a little
  • Look for the field patch
  • Color inspection
  • Say no to stem cells
  • Selection of pre-cut watermelons

Directions:

#1: Lift a little

The heavier the watermelon, the better, so choose one that weighs more for its size. This is because a heavy watermelon indicates that it is full of water and therefore already ripe. This also applies to most fruits and vegetables.

#2: Search for the field point

Identify the creamy yellow spot on the bottom of the watermelon: it is the point where the melon rested on the ground and ripened in the sun, so the darker the color, the better. If the spot is white or non-existent, it is possible that the fruit was picked too early and is therefore unripe.Image credit: Natural Ways via YouTube

#3: Inspect the color

If you think that a shiny watermelon is the perfect one to choose, you are wrong because a ripe watermelon should have a dark green color and a matte appearance. Otherwise, a shiny watermelon means it is not ripe enough.

#4: Say no to stem cells

Look for watermelons with slightly indented ends, as this indicates that the fruit has ripened and fallen off the vine on its own. Watermelons that still have stems mean that they have not come off the plant easily and are therefore not yet ripe.

#5: Choose pre-cut watermelons

When purchasing pre-cut watermelons, be sure to choose those with bright red flesh and dark brown or black seeds. Don’t choose those with white streaks or white seeds, or those with pulp that appears dry, stringy or separating.Image credit: Natural Ways via YouTube
