There are those who love it and those who hate it, yet it can save many main meals, even in summer. Who doesn’t want to consume a fresh salad with this versatile cereal in the hot season? Yet in some cases, in its raw state, rice contains arsenic. Let’s see how to eliminate it.

Eliminate arsenic

Widely present in nature, arsenic is a natural toxic substance. It is found in both water and soil and humans are continually exposed to its hypothetical contamination. In particular, rice, which draws nourishment from groundwater, can be particularly rich in it.

To eliminate it from what we bring to the table, a few steps are necessary. The first concerns the soaking of the grain. Soaking in water must take place overnight. After that, it must be drained and rinsed under running water.

These two steps will serve to remove at least 80% of the arsenic present. Subsequently, you can proceed to cooking the rice. For optimal cooking,  there should be five or six parts of water  for each part of rice. This way, the food will not absorb all the water in the pan. A measure that could eliminate 57% of arsenic.

The third step must be done at the end of cooking, when the rice, after having been  drained , must be rinsed one last time under hot water.rice – nanopress.com

To avoid excessive consumption of arsenic, you can choose to consume  different types of rice . Brown rice, for example, appears to have a higher amount of arsenic. Therefore, it is better to prefer white rice and also opt for red or black rice, basmati or wild rice. Alternatively, other cereals such as quinoa, millet or barley and buckwheat can also be brought to the table.
