HOW TO CLEAN THE IRON WITH THE SALT TRICK

As a result of ironing using steam, the  iron  and especially the  soleplate  are  attacked by limescale  and encrustations, as well as by stains.

In fact,  this appliance must be cleaned thoroughly every month,  otherwise you risk transferring the dirt onto your clothes.

A very quick trick for carefully polishing and washing the iron is using  salt ; Let’s see together how to use it right away!

Holes and plate

Without a doubt, the most tiring element to clean when we talk about the iron is the  soleplate together with the holes .

In fact, the plate, being made of steel,  can easily blacken  over the years, also due to water and contact with clothing.

The holes, however, are affected and blocked by limestone because the water vapor that remains inside them has difficulty going away.

The solution is to heat the iron plate  without making it hot , then you will have to pass a  sponge full of fine salt over it  and leave it to act for about 20 minutes.

After this time it will be necessary  to rinse well  with a microfibre cloth and you will see that the holes and the plate will become shiny and super clean again!

Alternatively, you can use another trick that requires  salt and baking paper : place the paper on the ironing board, heat the iron and when it is hot, pass it over the salt repeatedly.

The salt will dissolve instantly, sticking to the stains, at which point you will simply need to wipe with a sponge and the straightener will be perfect again!

In fact, many times, both on the plate and on other parts of the appliance, stubborn stains form, due to many different factors.

You will simply have to mix  1 tablespoon  of salt with  very few drops of hot water  until you obtain a mixture with the consistency of a gel. Then  spread the mixture on a soft sponge  and rub on the affected areas; rinse with plenty of hot water and dry thoroughly.

All stains will be gone in the blink of an eye!

Water heater

The  boiler  is the element of the iron that  collects a disproportionate quantity of limescale , which is why it is advisable to always put limescale-free and demineralised water inside it.

To descale the boiler you will have to  fill it with demineralised water  and about  2 tablespoons  of fine salt, turn on the boiler and steam at least 3/4 of the mixture  so that all the encrusted stains can go away effectively.

At the end of washing, if there is still some water left, empty it and let it dry thoroughly.

How to prevent stains

Finally, you have to ask yourself how to prevent these very stubborn stains on the iron.

Let’s see together some  simple measures  that can help:

  • at the end of each ironing, pass  a cloth soaked in vinegar over the soleplate to prevent stains and limescale;
  • always use  demineralised water  to avoid deposits of various scales;
  • do a wash  at least once a month , so as not to make the dirt worse;
  • when stubborn stains appear,  never use aggressive products , but prefer Marseille soap, rubbing it on the slightly heated affected area.
