Mold is one of the most common hygiene problems in the home. Blackened shower seals are not very aesthetic nor very healthy for indoor air quality .
If you have traces of mold in your bathroom, on the tiles or on the shower mat, you should know that there are many natural and ecological solutions to get rid of it.
1 – Use white vinegar to clean mold
White vinegar is a valuable ally for a green home .
You can use it to make your own eco-friendly clothing or get rid of food moths . But that’s not all, it also removes mold from silicone joints in the bathroom.
Mix a cup of white vinegar and a little dish soap, then scrub the moldy surfaces with a sponge.
2 – Black soap is an effective anti-mold
We already told you, black soap is used for many household tasks . You can also use it to remove mold from your carpets and shower curtains!
Scrub the carpet or shower curtain with a brush (toothbrush for example) and solid or liquid black soap and let it sit for half an hour before rinsing.
3 – Use grapefruit seed extract
In addition to preventing mold growth, grapefruit seed extract is odorless, as explained by Health Nutrition Magazine .
To kill mold, add about ten drops of grapefruit seed extract to a cup of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray the moldy surface. Let it sit and rub.
However, it is recommended to use it only on silicone joints, and not on tiles, as it leaves yellow marks.
4 – Use baking soda
Baking soda is useful for many green household tasks .
Its use is very simple. All you need to do is mix baking soda with hot water and wipe the mold stains with a towel or cloth.
Finally, wipe again with a damp towel.
5 – Lemon acts as a fungicide
The fungicidal and antibacterial properties of lemon make it an indispensable ally for everyday life: it is also used to eliminate bad odors from the washing machine or to scare away ants from your garden !
Like Rebecca from The Plumbette blog , to remove mold from tile grout, mix laundry soap with lemon juice, apply some to an old toothbrush, and scrub into the grout.
Leave it on for a few hours, the mold will disappear and you will only have to rinse with clean water!
The most effective way to prevent mold growth is to ventilate the bathroom well. After a good shower or bath, open the windows and the door to evacuate the humidity.
