The washing machine is one of the most used household appliances in the house. Thanks to its ever more innovative features, it allows you to obtain clean and fresh laundry after each wash. However, certain programs may prove unsuitable and cause irreversible damage to the laundry. This is particularly the case for fast mode.
Why is it not recommended to use the quick program of the washing machine?
Depending on the washing machine model, the quick program requires a time ranging from fifteen minutes to an hour. This includes a wash, rinse and spin cycle and is more suitable for smaller quantities of laundry. However, this express function may have certain disadvantages …and not the least!
- The quick program does not guarantee the cleanliness of the laundry
The fast program of the washing machine does not always guarantee the cleanliness of the laundry, especially when it is dirty. Some stubborn stains may be difficult to remove with such a short wash time and low temperature. In fact, this 35°C setting does not allow certain items to be disinfected such as sheets, underwear, towels, layettes or baby bodysuits which require a minimum temperature of 60°C. Additionally, these textiles may need more washing time for bacteria and dust mites to completely disappear. This is why it is recommended to use it on half a machine load.
- Fast program consumes more energy
Fast mode makes the washing machine more energy efficient. In fact, by activating the latter, the heating element of the machine is used intensively. This will therefore need more energy to heat the water more quickly. This then results in an increase in its energy consumption. If you want to save money, it is possible to adopt the economic mode of your household appliance. The latter allows you to heat the water gradually. The washing time is longer, which also compensates for the low washing temperature.
- The quick program is not suitable for all textiles
Although they are universal, quick programs are not suitable for all textiles. Some fabrics actually need special treatment. By choosing this express washing mode, the laundry can easily be damaged. This is the case, for example, of certain delicate fabrics such as wool, silk or lace clothing which require specific care. These require gentle washing which is not compatible with this type of short program. Before starting your washing machine, do not hesitate to sort your clothes according to the washing label. This will give you a detailed indication of the program to choose.
As you will have understood, the quick program of the washing machine certainly saves time and refreshes lightly soiled laundry. But it is not effective on a full load and should never replace standard washing.
