DIY laundry detergent is a great idea to save money and think about the environment. Let’s see how to prepare it for a year.

If you prepare your own detergent at home, you can spend as little as ten euros for a year’s washing machine.

DIY Laundry Detergent: Benefits

In addition to buying it at the supermarket, detergent can be made at home with considerable savings. Furthermore, by using your own detergent, you can respect the environment and the health of the people we care about. Very often detergents sold in supermarkets contain surfactants or chemical substances which can have harmful effects on the body in the long run.

Without forgetting the dangerous effects on the environment. Furthermore, homemade detergents are hypoallergenic and do not contain preservatives.

It has been shown that French families, for example, do an average of 5 washes a week in the washing machine, which corresponds to a total of 220 washes in a year. These washes consume 26 liters of liquid detergent and 40 kilos of detergent.

It is possible to prepare all detergents at home, including those for washing clothes in the washing machine. Let’s see how to prepare it for a year of washing, with just two ingredients and spending less than ten euros (about 0.35 cents per litre).

Production process

The ingredients needed to make the liquid laundry detergent needed for a year of washing are as follows:

  • Marseille soap flakes , 60 grams (average cost of around 0.40 cents)
  • Sodium percarbonate , 15 grams (average cost of 0.15 cents)
  • Bicarbonate , 30 grams, (average cost of 0.10 cents)
  • Essential oil , a few drops (approx. 0.05 cents).
  • 1 liter of hot water
  • 1 liter of cold water

First you need to heat a liter of water. Inside, you need to incorporate Marseille soap flakes. The flakes must be mixed well.

With the heat off, you need to pour in the percarbonate of soda and then the bicarbonate. Then you can puree everything with the help of a blender. The goal is to make the mixture as homogeneous as possible. After that, the mixture must be cooled and left to stand for about a whole day. At this point the detergent should have become very compact, but this is normal. The next step is to mix everything by adding a liter of cold water . Also in this case, the objective is to make the mixture homogeneous and smooth.

You will need jars, those of classic liquid detergents that have previously been rinsed and dried are fine, but simple plastic bottles are also fine. If you prefer, you can choose a glass jar. A few drops of an essential oil of your choice should be added to the detergent. It is used to perfume the laundry. L
