Surely you too have kept plastic pots for plants on your terrace or garden. Let’s see how to recycle them in an unusual way.
Old plastic pots, which perhaps housed plants that had been repotted or passed away, could be bulky and seem unusable.
Old plastic pots: what are they for?
Plastic pots are very useful for containing plants in your garden or on the terrace. They are made in different sizes and colors and usually have holes in the bottom to ensure water drainage. This way, when you water the plant, it will not rot due to waterlogging.
Generally, plastic pots are used to sell the seedlings , with a view to then being transferred into larger pots suited to the plant. For example, terracotta pots are more porous and beautiful to look at.
When the plant is repotted or unfortunately dies due to mismanagement or any other reason, the plastic pot remains empty. Let’s see how to recycle it in an unusual and original way.
In addition to old plastic pots, you’ll need some sturdy scissors to make a diagonal cut in the first pot you want to recycle. Next to the first cut, you will make a second one of the same size. With the scissors advance towards the base of the vase, then join the two cuts and remove a sort of diagonal plastic triangle in the vase.
Then, make holes along the cuts, as if they were the buttonholes of a sneaker. Just as if you were threading laces into their respective buttonholes, insert some wire into the previously made holes. Place the wire in an X.
At this point, fill it with polystyrene and then with soil. In the crack that you closed with the wire, insert some sprigs of succulent plant, so that they can remain inserted into the ground. Add soil little by little, moistening it with a spray bottle.
Once the vase has been filled and the crack completely covered by the succulent plant , it will be time to insert some roots into the top of the vase too. You can also decorate with some stones, as you like, respecting the composition you are creating. Add rocks and roots as desired and according to availability. The dry twigs of succulent plants are used because they are the ones that take root and resist best. You can also add gravel or sand.
In the end you will get a new arrangement of succulents , using a recycled vase that you might have thrown away. The decoration thus obtained can adorn a patio, a windowsill and there is no limit to the imagination for other possible compositions to be created with this method.
