{"id":2177,"date":"2024-01-15T22:54:53","date_gmt":"2024-01-15T22:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nanasadvice.com\/?p=2177"},"modified":"2024-01-15T22:54:54","modified_gmt":"2024-01-15T22:54:54","slug":"how-do-you-grow-a-pineapple-from-the-fruit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nanasadvice.com\/?p=2177","title":{"rendered":"How do you grow a pineapple from the fruit?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a1c60a49-751b-426b-b263-b54aaf2ced79\">Did you know that store-bought tall pineapple leaves can be rooted and grown as a houseplant?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-fca55711-c9ee-4f58-83c1-13fa97f827fc\">To make this,&nbsp;<strong>simply choose a fresh pineapple from your grocery store<\/strong>&nbsp;, preferably organic, cut off the top of the pineapple and let it root.&nbsp;Try to choose a pineapple that still has the most attractive foliage or is very varied, especially if you want to get a beautiful houseplant that is pleasing to the eye;&nbsp;Plus, good foliage can mean the plant is easier to root and you can enjoy your pineapple plant all year round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-edea665b-0897-4798-945d-74b805911c95\">Rooting and growing pineapple pieces are easy to maintain.&nbsp;Once you bring the pineapple home,&nbsp;<strong>cut off the top of the fruit about 1.5cm below the leaves.&nbsp;Next<\/strong>&nbsp;, remove some of the lower leaves.&nbsp;Cut the outside of the top of the pineapple at the base of the crown or stem until you see root shoots.&nbsp;These should appear as small brown bumps around the circumference of the stem.&nbsp;<strong>Let the pineapple dry for a few days to a week before planting it.&nbsp;<\/strong>This will help cure the top and prevent rot, mold and disease problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-29da3663-1d8b-4248-a95e-18c8b7bce061\">While it is possible to root a pineapple in water, you will probably have a better chance of doing so directly in soil.&nbsp;Use a mixture of light potting soil with perlite and sand.&nbsp;<strong>Insert the top of the pineapple into the soil up to the base of the leaves.&nbsp;<\/strong>Water well and place the plant near bright, indirect light.&nbsp;Keep the plant moist until roots develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-1658f0f8-95ad-4c5b-b32d-19fd35afa78f\">It takes about two months&nbsp;<strong>(6 to 8 weeks)<\/strong>&nbsp;for the roots to establish.&nbsp;You can check for rooting by gently pulling on the top to see the roots.&nbsp;Once the roots have grown significantly,&nbsp;<strong>you can give the plant more light.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-030c8cb0-cb62-4912-968a-a6efa19b2c7e\"><strong>If you grow pineapple, you should provide at least six hours of bright light per day.&nbsp;<\/strong>Water the plant as needed,&nbsp;<strong>allowing it to dry between waterings.&nbsp;<\/strong>You can also fertilize the pineapple plant with a soluble fertilizer once or twice a month in spring and summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-38f3f6b9-ba0d-4116-9ad8-ac84120b073e\"><strong>If desired,<\/strong>&nbsp;you can move the pineapple plant to a semi-shaded location in late spring and summer.&nbsp;<strong>However, be sure to bring it back indoors for the winter before the first autumn frosts.&nbsp;<\/strong>Because pineapples are slow-growing plants, don&#8217;t expect to see flowers for two or three years.&nbsp;<strong>However, you can stimulate flowering of mature pineapples by placing the plant on its side between waterings to stimulate the production of flowering-inducing ethylene.&nbsp;<\/strong>You can also put the pineapple in a plastic bag with an apple for a few days.&nbsp;Apples are known to emit ethylene gas.&nbsp;With any luck, flowering should occur within two to three months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that store-bought tall pineapple leaves can be rooted and grown as a houseplant?
